.CO speculators turn hand registered domains into quick profits, already

"Oprah Winfrey"
Oprah Winfrey's own moniker, OprahWinfrey.co is up for auction at Sedo. Oprah's official web site runs on Oprah.com. The OprahWinfrey.com web address doesn't even resolve.

Many of the .co domain names registered in the last week were web addresses purchased by speculators in the quest for quick profits.

The .co domain, which reportedly has over 366,000 domains registered to date, could prove to be lucrative.

No matter your opinion of the domain, everyone from Twitter to Mike Mann to Francois Carrillo have walked away with .co domains.

.Co domains, like any new domain, are deemed by many to be risky, but that hasn’t stopped the swarm of speculators, who are quickly turning profits on websites like Flipping.co and Sedo.

The .co has only been available a short time after being released to the general public on July 20th, but Sedo and Flipping.co both have several current auctions with active bidding.

Active .co Auctions

Yesterday, I wrote about Flipping.co and the website’s active .CO auctions.  Now here’s a look at active .co Sedo auctions that have recently appeared online.

car-insurance.co – current bid $1,200 USD
touchscreens.co – current bid $2,500 USD
oprahwinfrey.co – current bid $500 USD
sugarcane.co – current bid $187 USD

While these few names represent an infinitesimal fraction of the hundreds of thousands of domain names registered, the .co domain could revitalize sales for new domain investors who weren’t part of the .com landrush, which has had numerous rags-to-riches stories since the nineties.

OutdoorFountains.com receives $22,000 bid at GreatDomains

"Outdoor Fountain"
The phrase "Outdoor Fountains" has an exact monthly search volume of 74,000 searches according to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool.

The domain name OutdoorFountains.com has received 1 bid at GreatDomains for $22,000.

While $22,000 may sound like a lot of money to plunk down for some investors, it’s not a lot of money for the sole bidder who could very well be a company selling outdoor fountains as a product —- a company looking to get a competitive edge in the search engines.  Not to mention, a memorable domain name.

The $22,000 bid met the seller’s reserve price.  So now the name is in public auction for the next 4 days.

The $22,000 bid, is also well below Valuate.com’s appraisal – which puts the name at $100,000.

Next Navigation Pty Ltd, a web development and online sales company, based in Australia owns the domain.  The company also owns names like Salaries.com.

Sedo could be continuing another strong week of sales.  Last week the company owned nearly every spot in the DN Journal Top 20 chart, including the top spot with 029.com selling for $110,000.

Notable “Outdoor” sales

Outdoor domain name sales have done okay over the years.  Overall, there have been very few publicly reported sales according to NameBio, but the sales are listed demostrate strong interest in “Outdoor” domains as Product domains.  Previous sales include:

OutdoorWear.com – $18,819
OutdoorChaircushions.com – $4,400
OutdoorCarpets.com – $3,300
OutdoorLCD.com – $1,100
Outdoorfurniturecushion.com – $1,000

What does Wikipedia have to say about Dress up games?

According to Wikipedia:

The year is 2010, dress up games have changed and evolved compared to a decade ago. The graphics and game play of the animated dress-up games have dramatically improved from the 90s. Websites update and add new games close to every week to month. Before websites would require registration to play these games, but nowadays most of them are free. Dress-up websites can help children and anyone that play with their color coordination and imagination. To parents and some teachers these websites can be considered a waste of time but imagination is crucial to a child’s growth and development. Many children play dress up because they show interest in what they want to be when they finally grow up. With the increase of internet use having games and websites that contain dress-up game content will provide assistance for their growth.
