Top Adult Domain Name Sales of 2009; from XXXCartoons.com for $11K to Webcams.com for $1M+
Adult domains pay off for sellers year after year, with adult names that include keywords like “cam” or “nude” fetching top dollars. While the 2009 domain aftermarket had strong sales, adult domain names don’t seem to struggle — even long tailed names sell in the $XXX and higher range.
In most cases, adult domain names are quickly developed or redirect to an adult website. They get monetized. Many of the top sites on the internet according to Alexa: are adult web sites. And some of the top domainers own them, monetize them, and develop them.
Making the list of adult domain name sales for 2009 are xxxcartoons.com for $11,000, all the way up to webcam.com for the best seller in the Adult category for over $1 million.

Patrick Gavin Kick-Starts SearchEngineOptimization.net; The $62K BuyDomains Gamble to Beat out .COM
November 27, 2009. It’s already been 1 month and the clock is ticking for Patrick Gavin to take SearchEngineOptimization.net to the top page of Google over its .COM counterpart. Nov. 27 is when Patrick purchased the name and he plans to take the domain name to the top page of Google within 1 year. Patrick’s first order of business: he made a major change and 301′d PatrickGavin.com to SearchEngineOptimzation.net. A 301 redirect is where you permanently move a website to a new location without receiving any penalties by search engines.
We wrote about Patrick earlier this month when he only had a simple welcome post. Things have changed in the last few days.
PatrickGavin.com hit a traffic high in 2009 of nearly 20,000 visitors in May, while SearchEngineOptimization.net has gone from 147 visitors per month in Feb. 2009 to nearly 4,000 unique visitors in Nov.
You can read through his blog archives – articles that also cover domain names. In one article titled, “All the good domains are gone? NP just use (Pet name + Pet type).com” – he writes about a friend of his that grew BudCat.com into a successful business.
A little bit about Patrick:
From the newly updated SearchEngineOptimization.net:
I have been involved in search engine optimization since 2000. I previously co-founded Text Link Ads which was acquired by MediaWhiz in 2006. More information on my LinkedIn page. Currently working on SEO related ventures including DIYSEO.com
New to Domaining? ShoeMoney Looks to Revolutionize How to Make Money Online for the Internet Newbie
With tons of web sites claiming to show you how to make money without giving you the actual means, Jeremy Schoemaker of Shoe Money (a proven moneymaker with a multi million dollar business made famous by his $132,994.97 Google Adsense check) is claiming his brand-new system will more than certainly help you make money online.
Unlike some people who have achieved success by luck, then blog about things that don’t make the least bit of sense – Jeremy has consistently done the opposite.
Jeremy Schoemaker is not only one of the most successful affiliate marketers on the internet, he is also a domainer/developer building sites like Fighters.com and more. He shares a lot of useful information on his blog, but in the first quarter of 2010, he is reportedly going to introduce the Shoe Money System which has the potential to revolutionize making money online. Jeremy will be detailing the step-by-step process for making money, giving those interested a better picture of how to achieve success with concrete examples.
Most importantly, the price to get the information is rumored to be ridiculously cheap. Jeremy is essentially staking his reputation on it among all his loyal readers.
ShoeMoney is one of our regular reads, and WE PLAN to check out his system once it’s released and will let you know our thoughts.
You can watch a sneak peek of the Shoe Money system at ShoeMoneySystem.com.
According to the ShoeMoney Blog
We are planning to change the entire “how to make money online” industry ShoeMoney System launching early q1 of 2010. In the ShoeMoney system we:
Walk complete newbies through every process of making money on the internet.
Have over $2500 in coupon codes from every major advertising network.
Will be at a very low pricepoint so people are not investing thousands just to find out its not for them.
Will WAY over deliver with hundreds of hours of content.
Teach from our many years in building successful companies
I don’t think the cess pool known as “how to make money online” is ready for something like we are going to offer and I believe our system will change that industry forever.
Whether you are launching a new company or are just an affiliate marketer ask yourself what *new* value are you bringing to the table? What are you doing that others are not ? What are you doing that others can not? What story are you telling?
FWCEBOOK.COM Typo Being Sold to Highest Bidder on Sedo for $X,XXX; a look at the Whole Typo Alphabet
FWCEBOOK.COM, an obvious typo of FACEBOOK.COM, hit the Sedo auction block and is being sold to the highest bidder. At the time of this posting, the current high bid is $1,150.
Virtual Investments LLC who own about 45 other domains, listed the name for sale — but there are literally dozens, if not hundreds or thousands of more Facebook typos listed on Sedo.
Interestingly, while the Offer Description states the typo has “Great Traffic. Growing Double Digit Percentages Each Month”, that’s NOT the case. Unless we’re missing something: the traffic doesn’t even register a blip on Compete.
New Owners in For a Surprise
The new owners might be in for a rude awakening if Facebook decides to go after typo domain names of their popular trademark. While the term Facebook was a dictionary term long before the company established itself online – the company has several trademarks.
Facebook either has had no luck, no merit, or no concern for typo domains, at least in the case where the ‘a’ in Facebook is swapped with a different letter. Either way, traffic appears to be soo insignificant for these versions of typos, despite the web site’s popularity.
Have you seen other Facebook Typo Pages?
Here’s a look at other websites based on a typo of Facebook.com. In these examples, we simply substituted the letter ‘a’ with every letter of the alphabet. In some of the examples, the URLs redirect to sites like quizready (pictured above) or Adult Friend Finder – and several of the typos have recently expired and are getting ready to Delete via Dynadot.
Overall, most of the typos in the ‘a’ position have such a low amount of traffic that they dont’ register on any traffic meters.

Interested in buying one of Yun Ye’s Domains from Marchex? It’ll cost you at least $25,000

Back in 2004, it's estimated that the portfolio that Marchex acquired was generating over $20 million ($19 million of that was profit).
According to Marchex’ subsidiary MDNH Inc. which lists an inventory of high quality domain names for sale which are rumored to be from Yun Ye’s portfolio that was acquired by Marchex – it’ll cost you at least $25,000 for names like go-value.com, asiayellow.com, and bd-company.net.
Those names might sound extremely high-priced, but that’s the lowest suggested sale price listed on their domain marketplace.
Other $25,000 names include fedupfeds.org, goldmx.com, home2work.com, ingyenlogo.com, isale8.com, inboxgold.com, and alaak.com.
In many cases, the names listed for $25,000 redirect to Marchex’ directy and reference web site Ypeek.com – a Yellow pages online directory.
A Little About MDNH Inc.
Marchex Inc. purchased over 100,000 domain names from legendary domainer Yun Ye for the price of $164 million. While many of the names were premium names, according to web sites and blogs, a large percentage of the names listed on MDNH are straight out of Yun Ye’s old portfolio.
Times have changed. Marchex looks to be trying to unload several of their names including the bad names for extremely high prices through their subsidiary MDNH Inc.
While they have had some success recently with the sale of Dominio.com for $250,000, would you be willing to pay $25,000 for names like:
Bargin.net?
FitMundo?
Fufme.com?
Marchex does also list some Great Domains
Here’s a look at their top priced names on MDNH Inc.
matrimony.com $2,000,000
invitation.com $1,000,000
3g.com $1,000,000
pickup.com $500,000
criminals.com $500,000
hairstyler.com $500,000
loanfast.com $500,000
moneyorder.com $500,000
recyclers.com $500,000
tornado.com $500,000
drugfree.com $500,000
angry.com $500,000
jobonline.com $500,000
jobsource.com $500,000
livechat.com Personals $500,000
efaucet.com $500,000
decals.com $500,000
fleemarket.com $500,000
moneyclip.com $500,000
shoeoutlet.com $500,000
smoker.com $500,000
china.org $500,000
travelbiz.com $500,000
carkits.com $250,000
carseller.com $250,000
Granted all these prices are just initial asking prices, but it looks like in some cases Marchex may have overvalued many of their names – and now they’re hoping others will do the same. That is, unless $25,000 for esol-owc.net sounds like a bargain.
12 out of the Top 25 Domain Sales of 2009, Remain Parked
While 12 domains out of the Top 25 “reported” Domain Sales of 2009 remain parked, 13 have been developed — or at least hint, in some cases, at the possibility of development with “Coming Soon” or “Under Construction” pages. The grand total for the names that are parked: $7,681,551.
Amongst the parked names: mystery buys like Luck.com and Russia.com, Live Current’s sales of Brazil.com and Body.com, and Yahoo’s Contests.com that was purchased by National A-1.
It’s too early to tell if the Parked names will remain parked instead of fully developed, but $7.7 million sounds like a lot of money to have sit around for too long especially with the decline of Parking revenue. While many still do well on PPC with Parked domains, most have seen a decline over recent years.
The list of Parked names isn’t so clear cut, like Exterminator.com which displays Sponsored Listings and others, but most of the names we found parked are your typical parked page, like Russia.com and Brazil.com that both reside on GoDaddy Parked Pages.
Here’s a look at the names in the top 25, parked.
Ticket.com – $1,525,000
Russia.com – $1.5M
Server.com – $770,000
Luck.com – $675,000
Brazil.com – $500,000
Talk.com – $500,000
Resumes.com – $400,000
Body.com – $400,000
Forums.com – $399,990
Contests.com – $380,000
Best.com – $331,561
Voodoo.com – $300,000
MoxyMedia Shows How Long-Tailed Domain Names Can Be Successfully Owned & Operated with Development
MoxyMedia, the online media publishing company that gets over 15 million visitors monthly to its online properties, owns and operates web sites like TummyTuck.com, and PlasticSurgeons.com.
They also own several popular niche domains like ChristmasGifts101.com and Industrial101.com that they’ve developed. In addition to building out their category-killer names and their niche names, they also develop long-tailed domain names — domain names based on search phrases that only receive a couple hundred Exact Searches.
While many might stay away from these types of longtailed names, others see opportunity, particularly in development.
FilingForBankruptcyOnline.com
One of MoxyMedia’s online properties is FilingForBankruptcyOnline.com. A search phrase that according to Google AdWords Keyword Tool only received 210 exact searches last month. But the website according to Compete, had over 9,000 unique visitors last month, and got as high as 11,000+ visitors in Jan. 2009.
Most of its traffic comes directly from Google – with a 54.63% referral share. Other websites that send the longtailed name traffic include BankruptcyLawFirms.com and LawFirms.com — two other online properties that MoxyMedia owns and operates as part of their ExpertHub network. But the referral share from those two sites is less than 15% combined — Google Organic Search is definitely boosting traffic to this site.
Future with Longtailed Names?
There are lots of opportunities to still hand-register names, especially longtailed names. Of course, development is key, but MoxyMedia has some great case studies for web development — from 101 niche domains, to dotorgs, to longtailed names — and most importantly, over 15 million visitors per month to their network of websites.
Domainer & Poker Star Dutch Boyd Facing Lawsuit for Infringing Domain, Tells Lawyers “F** Off”

Boyd attended college at age 12 and graduated from Law School at 18. He could probably be working for any Big Firm - but instead he found a passion in poker and domain names.
Domainer and World Series of Poker Bracelet Holder Dutch Boyd is back in the news. Boyd has been known for controversy, and TwoPlusTwo.com a website that publishes online gambling books is going after Boyd after he registered the domain name TwoPlusTwoPoker.com.
While Boyd no longer owns the name, he did have a website online and TwoPlusTwo wanted a full accounting of the domain name data due to the length of time the registration was owned by Boyd. TwoPlusTwo.com gets over 150,000 unique visitors per month.
After sending several demands to Boyd for a full accounting of the domain name and website, Boyd responded by email with the message: F** off.
Gambling911.com Has the Story
Due to the length of time the registration was owned by Mr. Boyd, and his blatant infringement, we informed Boyd that the expiration of the would not resolve the dispute. At the very least, we needed to know exactly how much revenue the domain name and website had generated and how much traffic the site received. We also demanded that the domain be reclaimed and transferred back to us, as any expired domain places a mandatory 60-90 day hold before it can be registered to a new owner. A copy of our second demand letter is attached here. Boyd again refused our demands, and stated that he was “not afraid of being sued” and that Two Plus Two was “wasting its time.”
After additional back and forth emails between our lawyers and Boyd, Boyd continued to refuse our demands for a full accounting of the domain and website, and refused to enter into any sort of reasonable settlement. We sent a final demand letter to Boyd letting him know that we were out of options, and that if he didn’t want to cooperate by providing the domain name data or entering into settlement negotiations, we’d have no choice but to sue him. Boyd responded to our attorneys with a two-word email: “F*** off.” We filed our suit the next day.
We never enter into litigation lightly, and it is never our attempt to “bully” anyone. However, we take protection of our intellectual property very seriously. We’ve spent decades building up our brand from our first days as a small book publisher in Las Vegas. Today, we have sold millions of books around the world and our website continues to grow beyond anything we expected. In fact, we recently hit the one-million unique visitors per month milestone. Due to the time and money we’ve spent building our brand, and the prominent role of the Internet in our success, we cannot afford to take this type of blatant infringement lightly.

The Best Advice for New Domainers with small budgets, Doesn’t Come From Big Time Domainers of the 90s
The best advice we have found doesn’t come from studying the habits or trackrecords of Big time domainers who became successful during the domain landrush of the 90s and early 2000s.
It doesn’t come from Domainers with huge category-killer portfolios. Where does it come from?
Affiliate and Internet Marketers Hold the Most Influence for New Domainers on a Budget
While we regularly read dozens of Domainer blogs, we’ve been reading more closely the blogs of Internet and Affiliate marketers. If you listened to Big Time domainers and asked their advice about getting into the industry, you could easily be waiting 5 years, or 10 years or longer before you could save enough to get into the game.
Do you really believe Search Traffic is pointless? Are Minisites pointless? Of COURSE NOT. Are you kidding us? These are the staple of building a successful business these days especially if you’re on a shoestring. And for any Domainer who plans to build out their names (the good and the bad), search traffic and development (even with a minisite) are some of the KEY ingredients to getting momentum.
Are Domain Conferences Really for Small Time Domainers?
We’ve never attended a TRAFFIC conference or any other domain conference, as we run things on a limited budget – but chances are if we had the money, we’d probably attend an Affiliate Convention or other conference for ENTREPRENEURS. We’re excited about reading the online reports of the Affiliate Convention by Bruce Marler and Morgan Linton – as those conferences potentially offer the most benefit for new entrepreneurs.
Even the coveted TRAFFIC Conferences don’t look to attract domainers trying to make it in the Domain industry. If you’re making $1,000 per month profit as a Domainer – FORGET about attending. As Rick Schwartz says about domainers who earn just $1,000 per month,
”They don’t make you money, they COST you money by wasting YOUR time with folks that can’t do a damn thing for you.”
Fair enough.
Rick is a blunt person and doesn’t pull punches. But actually Rick is doing many of us a favor by letting us know there’s nothing for bootstrap domainers to learn at a TRAFFIC conference. So now we’re not wasting our money or our time.
At the end of the day, how much you can really learn by listening to the same people every year or every few months? Networking in any industry is great, but if you’re starting from the bottom – the best place to network might be with those who are energetic and extremely successful – and who can share stories of what they did right and what they did wrong.
Learn from those type of people who are constantly making money with new ideas, you’ll be better off
There’s only so much you learn by looking at the sales of Big Time Domainers. It’s when you look past the fact they own category-killers – and look to domainers at your own level and AFFILIATE/INTERNET MARKETERS that you can really start learning — at least that’s been our experience.
The Most Influential Marketers
Invesp published their Top 10 Most Influential Marketers of 2008 and these people are wonderful resources. Why? These people offer tangible proof of how they succeeded. The list includes Darren Rowse of Problogger and Aaron Wall of SEOBook. The list goes on and on. Some of our favorite reads are Shoemoney.com and JohnChow.com. And of course other domainers struggling each and every day with limited resources to make things happen. Invesp is putting together the 2009 list, and it’ll be a great resource if you’re looking to learn from the BEST of those who are blazing trails today and who share concrete lessons.
Domaining, still one of the most exciting industries, even if you’re hand-registering domains
If we had $1MM – we’re not even sure we’d invest it in domain names -but starting from the bottom, this is certainly one of the most promising industries even long after the nineties. But if you had $2,000 to spend, which is several months worth of budget for small time domainers like ourselves – would you rather spend it so you could listen to Domainers talk about owning Money.com and God.com – or would you rather spend it learning from those who offer benefits that you can take back with you and apply.
Have you ever read WebTrafficROI – a web marketing blog aimed at people passionate about their web business? ZK, the author, offers FREE resources. Take a look at any of the recent entries and you’ll see for yourself.
When you can learn from those who take a domain name like text-link-ads.com or AllTop.com and turn into a successful business with very little investment, why would listen to those who tell you it can’t be done unless you own a category killer?
Don’t like Domains ending with “101″? MoxyMedia who get over 15M Visitors Per Month Buy & Build Them
After losing out on the domain landrush of the 90s and early 2000s, many Domainers turned to alternate names – using “THE” starting at the beginning of the name or the term “101″ at the end.
With the popularity of social media sites other variations became in demand like “YOU” and “MY” starting at the beginning of the domain name and “TUBE” at the end. Despite advice from Longtime Domainers saying you should own category-killer domain names – there are plenty of others who say the contrary – with proof to show that with some good development, it’s worth it.
Getting a start in the Domain Industry doesn’t mean you have to feel inclined to only buy killer names, because you can buy names and develop them into moneymaking machines. It’s not just coming from us or other new domainers, it’s coming from very successful companies who are doing it everyday. While you might not be interested in registering less than category-killer names, it is ultimately less expensive than the alternative.
Don’t Take it from us – Check out Moxy Media
Moxy Media’s publishing division operates over 300 websites according to their Corporate site – with each site providing consumers with information and access to products and services. These sites get more than 15 million visitors per month and not all the traffic is coming from their category-killers like LawFirms.com, PlasticSurgeons.com, Dentists.org, or Chiropractors.org – it’s also coming from unlikely websites that use domains like SwimmingPools101.com and DesignerHandBags101.com.
101 Provides a Great Niche, Especially for Developed Names
Moxy Media not only has the skills needed to develop domain names – but they also have the staff and resources to get the job done. But instead of buying up all the expensive domains, they acquire and develop longtailed names and 101 niche names to boost their business.
Here’s a shortlist of their 101 names that are developed along with some statistics.
Industrial101.com – >148,000 visitors per month
AllergyRelief101.com – >4,000 visitors per month
InsuranceGuide101.com – >3,000 visitors per month
