Sony Pictures’ focus on social games revealed in domain registrations

Sony Tablet S

It looks like the Sony P and S tablets that were recently outed could come with much more than just a PSP and Playstation emulator to set themselves apart from competitors according to over a dozen domain registrations that took place at the end of August.

The domain name registrations, which include SonyPicturesSocialgames.com and SonyPicturesInteractive.com, may not just hint at the company’s focus to release social games on the web, smartphones and tablets, but an entire new studio service stood up by Sony Pictures called Sony Pictures Interactive.

Take a look for yourself at the domain names.

Another new programming language? Google registers DartLanguage.com

Programming language

This makes not one but two batches of language related domains Google has registered in recent days.

On September 1, Google registered several domain names revolving around the words ‘Dart’ and ‘Language’ including DartLanguage.com, GoogleDart.com and many more.

At the end of August Google filed a trademark application for Spot and purchased several domains including SpotLanguage.net.  While no trademark application for ‘Dart’ as a programming language has surfaced yet, Google does have trademarks for DART (such as DART search) which it retired after acquiring Doubleclick.  And you can bet that a trademark application will be filed with the United States and Patent Trademark Office any time now.

The list of new registrations include:

http://whois.domaintools.com/dartlang.net
http://whois.domaintools.com/dartlang.org

http://whois.domaintools.com/googledart.com
http://whois.domaintools.com/googledart.net

Google went as far to even purchase dart-lang.com, dart-lang.net and dart-lang.org.

Microsoft to release dedicated advertising service for Windows 8 apps

Windows 8 USAToday app

The competition for mobile advertising is heating up and it appears Microsoft will be offering its own dedicated advertising service for Windows 8, the next generation of Windows that supports tablets.

According to privately marked domain registrations such as AdvertisingonWindows8.com that took place on August 30, Microsoft has apparently registered nearly a dozen domain names through MarkMonitor hinting at the possible service.

The domain names include:

http://whois.domaintools.com/adsonwindows8.com
http://whois.domaintools.com/adsonwindows8.net
http://whois.domaintools.com/advertisingonwindows8.com
http://whois.domaintools.com/advertisingonwindows8.net
http://whois.domaintools.com/windows8ads.com
http://whois.domaintools.com/windows8ads.net
http://whois.domaintools.com/windows8advertising.com
http://whois.domaintools.com/windows8advertising.net

Right now the actual owner of the domains is hidden behind Whois privacy provided by MarkMonitor’s DNstination.

But rest assured, these registrations are 99 percent certain to be Microsoft as MarkMonitor is a brand protection company for some of the world’s biggest companies including Microsoft itself (see Whois record for Microsoft.com).
