The Avengers video game looks to have a title — Avengers: Battle for Earth.

On May 3, 2012, a day before the film was released in the United States, the domain name (Whois) was registered through the brand protection company MarkMonitor.

The name was registered by Marvel Characters, Inc. and is currently listed on Ubisoft’s nameservers: and

While there has been speculation the game may have been delayed, cancelled, or simply couldn’t work, the newest domain registration hints that it may be officially announced soon.

[UPDATED May 10, 2012:. Ubisoft officially announced “Battle for Earth” in a deal with Marvel Entertainment, LLC. According to the press release, “This game will be released this fall for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft with Kinect™ for Xbox360 and Nintendo’s Wii™ U™ system.”]

News acquires the domain from Marvel for an unknown price

In a strange turn of events, has acquired the domain from comic books giant Marvel.

What’s so strange about the acquisition?  

For starters, in mid-June Marvel filed eight trademark applications centered around “Blip” and “”, applications it has yet to abandon.

And as I reported in June, in addition to the trademark applications, Marvel also acquired the domain name around the same time.

Well, as of yesterday, the domain name redirects people to, the original web series site which according to Quantcast gets over 2 million visitors worldwide each month.

No announcement has been made by at the time of this posting regarding the acquisition of

The domain name changed from Marvel to just today.

Marvel to unveil new social networking service called Blip

Activision recently announced its foray into online social networking with “Call of Duty Elite” rolling out this November, and now it appears as if Marvel the comics giant, will be launching its own service called “Blip”.

According to eight recent filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (submitted on June 14) Marvel has some big plans. 

All the applications centered on “Blip” and “”. 

In addition to the trademark applications, Marvel also acquired the domain name (which currently doesn’t resolve) this month according to WHOIS records.  The owner switched from Future Publishing Ltd to Marvel.

Marvel hasn’t revealed any details on Blip or even discussed it publicly.  The only evidence of the company’s plans are the trademark filings and domain acquisition.
