“Battle of Heroes Land of Immortals” domain registration followed by Ubisoft trademark

Battle of Heroes Land of Immortals

Earlier this week, Ubisoft registered the names BattleofHeroesGame.com and BattleofHeroesLandofImmortals.com.

But it’s not just domains that Ubisoft is getting. The domain registrations have been followed by trademark filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

On December 10, 2013, the company filed two trademarks (US Serial Numbers 86139588 and 86139580) for “Battle of Heroes Land of Immortals” covering computer games.

The “Goods and Services” in 86139580 covers “Entertainment services namely providing an on-line computer game for others over global and local area computer networks and providing information on-line relating to computer games and video games”.

While 86139588 covers “Game software and electronic game programs, namely, software games recorded on CD-ROM and digital video discs for computers; software games recorded on CD-ROMs, digital video discs, and cartridges for console and individual, portable gaming systems; software games that are downloadable from a remote computer site and electronic game software for mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and handheld computers”.

While Ubisoft has made no announcement yet regarding Battle of Heroes Land of Immortals, readers suspect it may be a MOBA.

Both domain names are still parked online and offer no hints about the company’s plans.

Ubisoft registers ‘Battle of Heroes’ & ‘Battle of Heroes: Land of Immortals’ domains

Ubisoft registers 'Battle of Heroes' & 'Battle of Heroes: Land of Immortals' domains

Who knows what is coming next from Ubisoft, but the company made some domain registrations this week that offer some details.

Ubisoft has registered the names BattleofHeroesGame.com (Battle of Heroes Game) and BattleofHeroesLandofImmortals.com (Battle of Heroes: Land of Immortals).

I wouldn’t get too excited as the company doesn’t appear to have too much invested in the yet-to-be-announced title, at least when it comes to domains.  Only the dotcoms are registered, and even more surprisingly, at the time of this story being published, LandofImmortals.com is not even registered according to WHOIS records.

That will likely change.

Google Cache reveals info on Ubisoft’s next-gen game Fighter Within [UPDATED]

Fighter Within

Just a few days ago, newly discovered domain registrations hinted at a next-gen game by Ubisoft called Fighter Within.  Not much was known about the game at the time, except for the domain names and the fact they redirected visitors to a “Coming Soon” page on Ubisoft’s official website.

Thanks to Google Cache, a snapshot of the official website was stored on August 16, revealing several details about the game, which promises to provide users the excitement of a real fight and will be offered on the Xbox One and take advantage of the Kinect technology.  Ubisoft has since pulled the website, but not before Google Cache snagged a copy.

Ubisoft’s new next-gen IP may be called “Fighter Within”, domains registered [UPDATED]

Ubisoft: Fighter Within

Video game company Ubisoft appears to be up to something.

Judging by changes to some domain names, the company looks to have registered Fighter-Within.com earlier this week and also secretly registered the name FighterWithinGame.com back in June.  Both names were registered using Go Daddy’s proxy service.

While the proxy service makes the true registrant of the names unknown, both names redirect users to a “Coming Soon” page on ubi.com: http://fighter-within.ubi.com/fighter-within/en-US/

No official announcement has been made by Ubisoft regarding “Fighter Within”, however, Ubisoft recently said it would “share details on a new next-gen IP currently in development” at the upcoming Gamescom which takes place August 21-25.

With less than a week until Gamescom, we should know soon what plans are in store for “Fighter Within”.

UPDATE 1 August 18, 2013: More information has been revealed about “Fighter Within”.  A snapshot of the official website (before it was taken down by Ubisoft) was stored on Google Cache.

Ubisoft pays undisclosed amount of cash to acquire Watch Dogs dot-com domain

Watch Dogs PS4

Watch Dogs has been generating a lot of buzz in the video game community since it was first announced at E3 2012.

Last June, on the very same day Ubisoft kicked off its E3 press conference and unveiled Watch Dogs, the company registered a bunch of new domains like WatchDogs2.com, WatchDogs3.com, WatchDogs4.com and WatchDogs5.com.

However, one name was missing from the list:  WatchDogs.com.  That’s because the name had a different owner.

Now, according to WHOIS records, Ubisoft owns the domain name as of this week and has begun redirecting the web address to its main Watch Dogs website.

The exact sales amount is unknown since the sale wasn’t publicly reported, but given WatchDogs.com is a pretty strong name on its own, the price was likely in the five-figure range.

I can only speculate on the sales price.  Although it’s not necessarily apples to apples, watchdog.co.uk sold for over $4,000 USD in 2011 according to DNJournal.  So you can only imagine how much watchdogs.com sold for, especially with all the press around the video game.

Ubisoft likely has long term plans for Watch Dogs, that is, if domain names are any clue about the company’s intentions.   Ubisoft also registered Watch Dogs movie domains last year, as well as WatchDogsOnline.com.

I’ve reached out the previous owner of WatchDogs.com by email and will update this post if I hear anything back.
