Rage.com, Clitoris.com, other Great Domains easily exceed $100,000 in early bidding, still 5 days left

bidding war

One of the world’s leading auction websites, Sedo’s GreatDomains, is eyeing another successful auction.  This month’s featured auction which started May 20th and ends May 27th, 2010 has yielded over 100 bids and over $100,000 in bidding – and there are still over five days remaining. The auction so far has the highest bid of $14,999 USD for coa.com – a domain name that averages over 1,000 unique visitors per month as a Parked page.  The acronym COA also means Certificate of Authenticity.

Other names already receiving large bids include:  769.com, Blokes.com, Clitoris.com, Peaches.com, Roamining.com, Trekking.com, Pranks.com, NHO.com, 627.com, SSW.com, Rage.com, CFJ.com, WOIS.com, HCK.com, and more.

Good Buys

Quantity-wise, the auction offers a good amount of No Reserve and Low Reserve names, with YUZU.com the top bidding “No Reserve” name currently at $2,000 USD and over 20 bidders.  The domain name expired in 2008 and sold at NameJet.com for $3,100.  It’s a catchy domain that also was once the home page of a Japanese website in the late 90s, early 2000s.

Telephone.net is another no reserve name, among the many .net domains up for auction that has over 20 bidders.  Judging by the past history of sales for telephone domains, the “no reserve” price shouldn’t impact the final sale price.  Telephone.com sold for $2,000,000 in 2000 and Telephone.mobi sod for $4,305 in 2007.

The ongoing auction that ends in 5 days will be another success for Sedo, thanks to the early bidding that will only get more heated in the final hours and minutes.

Hallpass Media Launches New Site for $350,000 “Casual Gaming” Domain Name: CookingGames.com

"Cooking Games"
Bill Kara with his collection of highly entertaining and virtual world websites including CoolGames.com, GirlGames.com, WordGames.com and more - knows how to quickly recover an investment, even large six-figure investments for a two-word domain name in one of the worst recessions of all time.

After redesigning its own website, HallPass Media the entertainment network has launched CookingGames.com – the domain name that sold for $350,000 in January at Noktadomains and caused many to question the reasoning behind the purchase.  Maybe because the fact that CookingSupplies.com only sold for $2,500 in 2006 or that other game domains had sold for far less – but it was a no brainer for Bill Kara the CEO of Hallpass Media who paid $100,000 for the domain StickGames.com and is on track to quickly turn a profit in months.

Bill didn’t have sticker shock. Hallpass Media doesn’t buy and park, the company buys and develops.

CookingGames.com like many of the Hallpass Media properties is a casual gaming site. And casual gaming is a high growth market, with big money that attracts a mass audience.

Google even opened up their wallet recently to purchase Labpixes, a company that develops casual games – including applications for the Android phone.

Hallpass Media’s newest site lets you play games where cooking is a big part of the game.  From the CookingGames.com website:

The Domain Name Almost Every Marketer Wants, RetireWealthy.com (and someone lets it expire)

Retire WealthyRetire Rich.  Retire Young.  Retire Wealthy.  The goals that everyone would like to reach.  And the words that marketers love to use when coaxing people into buying their get-rich-quick products or services.

Most of the names that grab attention on aftermarket sites like NameJet are product names, keywords, names with page rank.  There are always a few interesting call-to-action domains dropping, but this could possibly be one of the better call-to-action domains to expire in 2010.

Some of the more popular call-to-action messages like Retire Early, Retire Rich, Retire Young – are all registered, of course.  RetireRich.com is the home page of Contemporary Pensions, Inc. RetireEarly.com is parked a 1&1 and was registered back in the 1990s.

Rich Dad Poor Dad owns hundreds

One of the great call-to-action retire domains: RetireYoung.com is owned by RichDad.com – run by Robert Kiyosaki who co-authored the book Rich Dad Poor that advocates financial independence through owning businesses, investing and other techniques.

RetireWealthy.com is listed at NameJet in PreRelease and heads to private auction on June 7th, 2010. The domain already has 47 bidders and will likely fetch a pretty penny in the aftermarket.

DailyBargains.com sells for $10,500; Another Hot New “Group Buying” web site in the making?

Daily Bargains
Despite owning 400,000+ names, Kevin Ham may have been better off using a name like DailyBargains.com over GoodNews.com for his "group buying" venture.

It appears another “group buying” site could be in the making with the sale of DailyBargains.com on Sedo’s GreatDomains.com for $10,500. Group buying sites like LivingSocial have raised millions in venture capital, with LivingSocial raising $14 million in its third round this past April. Group buying sites offer daily bargains, making DailyBargains.com a perfect domain for yet another group buying venture.

DailyBargain.com which currently shows a BuyDomains.com For Sale page, is no longer available for sale when you click through the buy link.

Group Buying = Daily Bargains

Group buying is a hot new trend. Though conceived years earlier, the concept never quite caught over the past years, but it has taken the internet by storm in 2009 and 2010 with the popularity of social media.

If you own a domain name that fits this category, you may want to hold on.

These are names that could be very profitable in 2010.

Is GoodNews.com Having Difficulty Getting 1,000 People to Join, Despite Advertising on 400,000+ Domains?

If you’ve been watching Kevin Ham’s latest “Group Buying” venture in the past few weeks, you’ve probably noticed the landing page and beta site change a few times. While the site is in Beta, there’s a lot of see-sawing between launching the site to the public, in Beta, and posting a “Coming Soon” page while the site tries to attract more subscribers through Reinvent’s network of 400,000+ domain names like Pajamas.com, for example.

GoodNews.com Sign-Up Page
GoodNews.com is currently running a launch Deal that offers the chance to buy an iPad for $50 to the member who has been the most active and referred the most people to join Good News. But in order to activate this deal, GoodNews.com needs 1,000 people to join.

Despite being online the past few weeks across 400,000+ domains, GoodNews.com has only managed to get less than 250 subscribers. At the time of this story, 783 more Sign-ups are needed to activate the deal (however, by the time this story was published, the number suddenly changed to only 20 more sign ups).

Is it a glitch? Are people still unfamiliar with group buying?

Hard to tell, but if GoodNews.com is truly advertised across 400,000+ domain names, taking a couple weeks to get 1,000 sign ups would be seriously disappointing results.

But since the site is in beta, there’s a good chance a lot of the kinks are still being ironed out, including the numbers for the launch deal.
