Baffled: Huge Product Domain expires, ends up on aftermarket: Alternators.com

"Alternators"Until you see some of the names that end up on the aftermarket, you wouldn’t believe that the previous owners allowed the names to expire.

Product domains have always been a huge draw amongst domain investors in the aftermarket and Alternators.com shouldn’t be any exception.

The domain name expired on March 27, 2010 and is pending renewal or deletion through Network Solutions.  Because Network Solutions has a partnership with NameJet, the name will be put up for auction on May 1, 2010, unless of course the owner renews in time.

Some stats on the domain name: Alternators.com

The keyword “alternator” gets over 100,000 exact searches globally on a monthly basis, while the keyword “alternators” gets over 20,000.  There is certainly no lack of businesses specializing in selling alternators, both online and in brick-and-mortar storefronts.

Back in the early 2000s, the domain name was owned by OEM Industries, Inc. who specialize in the manufacture of precision and commercial gears, as well as other machined parts.  And they have an active web site to this day at oemindustries.net (but they no longer own the name, and by the looks of it, they haven’t in some time).

It’s baffling that companies allow these names to expire, but good for the domain industry if the next buyer is able to pick it up at a reasonable price and resell it for a much greater price.

At the time of this posting the name only has 14 bidders with a high pre-bid of $69.  Valuate.com appraises the name at $20,000.

Expired Domain Name Gazillions.com Attracts Several Early Bidders, Despite Low Statistics

"Dr Evil Gazillion Trillion Dollars"Some people make millions.  Some people make billions.  But now Gazillions.com is available after expiring on March 20, 2010.

In case you’re wondering just how much a Gazillion is, it’s an extremely large, indeterminate number.  Saying a Gazillion, is kinda like saying Dr. Evil’s memorable quote in Austin Powers for a ransom amount of, “One… Hundred… BILLION DOLLARS!”.

In 2003, the domain name Gazillions.com was owned by WackyLotto – a website that claimed to run a $10,000,000 online Daily Lotto.  The WackyLotto.com site is now offline.

Despite a low vaulation, low monthly search volume under 1,000 searches, and zero traffic, the domain has attracted over 40 bidders at NameJet with the current high pre-bid of $230.  The name doesn’t go to auction until April 23, 2010.

All Coupons Direct not only owns and operates free coupon websites in a number of different categories, it’s also owned by Hazen Holdings, LLC – or better known as Andrew Hazen who runs Prime Visibility and regularly blogs at AndrewHazen.com.

Owner of JerseyShore.com cashes in on domain name, and sells

Jersey Shore GirlsIn early January we wrote about the domain name JerseyShore.com and how the owner failed to cash in on the success of MTV’s Jersey Shore reality TV series, as a blank page served as the home page instead of a destination web site for the Jersey Shore.

In January 2010, traffic to JerseyShore.com jumped to over 25,000 unique visitors according to Compete.com and now the domain has changed hands on March 28, 2010 to the owner of WildWood.com.

Ironically, the owner of WildWood.com left a comment back in January on our old Commenting system:

I am a big fan of Wildwood and the Jersey Shore. The southern Jersey Shore is a much different atmosphere then portrayed by the MTV show…

Details on the price are unknown, but you can guarantee this is a geo domain name worth owning with MTV pushing out free marketing for the web site.

MTV has just started production on Season 2 of the popular reality show which will air this summer.
