THQ acquires DeathLives.com domain name, points it to Darksiders web page

Darksiders II

The Horseman Death is the main character for the upcoming action adventure video game Darksiders 2 by Vigil Games and THQ.

Now it looks like THQ will be stepping up its marketing in anticipation of the game’s launch this June.

According to Whois records, THQ has acquired the domain name DeathLives.com for an undisclosed amount.  Just this week, the domain switched from Domains by Proxy, Inc. (Go Daddy’s Whois privacy service) to THQ, Inc.

Today, the web address points to the Darksiders home page on darksiders.com.

THQ has been using the catch-phrase “Death Lives” in press releases, videos and other marketing materials, to draw attention to Darksiders 2.

In a Developer Diary released last month, the team behind the game discussed why Death was chosen as the character.

Paramount registers domain names as talks over Katy Perry movie continue

Katy Perry movie

The Hollywood Reporter reported in late January that Paramount Pictures and Katy Perry were in talks about creating a documentary-style 3D film.

Although only in the early stages, Paramount Pictures must be fairly confident that a deal will be struck.

On February 9, 2012, the movie studio registered a handful of domain names for possible movie titles like KatyPerrymovie.com and KatyPerryCaliforniaGurlmovie.com.

In total, Paramount Pictures registered five domains.

Crowdstar working on next unannounced game called Modern Girl [UPDATED]

Modern Girl by Crowdstar

[UPDATED:. Crowdstar released Modern Girl on March 6, 2012.]

**

Original story:

Mobile social gaming company Crowdstar appears to be working on its next iOS “Girl” game called Modern Girl.

In a filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on February 6, 2012, Crowdstar Inc. filed to trademark “Modern Girl by Crowdstar”.

The goods and services covered in the trademark filing (Serial Number: 85534912) include:

Downloadable computer game software for use on wireless devices and computers; computer-game software, video game software, and computer game application software; interactive-video-game programs; electronic game software and electronic game application software that may be accessed via the Internet, computers and wireless devices; computer software to enable uploading, posting, showing, displaying, tagging, blogging, sharing or otherwise providing electronic media or information regarding the fields of virtual communities, electronic gaming, entertainment and general interest via the Internet or other communications networks with third parties

Crowdstar’s Social Girl which launched in December 2011, snagged a million downloads in its first week of going live.

At the time of this story, Crowdstar has made no announcement about Modern Girl.

The trademark filing for Modern Girl comes at a peculiar time.  The same week Crowdstar submitted the application, Apple warned developers not to manipulate App Store rankings.

Looks like THQ has registered some “Stick of Truth” domain names

THQ

THQ squashed rumors of its demise last month.  Now, the game publisher has apparently registered a handful of domain names related to something called “The Stick of Truth”.

On February 7, 2012, the domain names Stickoftruth.com (Whois), TheStickoftruth.com (Whois) and TruthStick.com (Whois), were registered with Go Daddy.

Of course, saying that THQ is definitely behind the registrations is speculation at this point.

All three domains were registered privately using Go Daddy’s WHOIS privacy service – Domains by Proxy.

But what leads me to believe that THQ is the owner, is the domain servers listed in the Whois records (NS1.THQ.COM, NS2.THQ.COM and NS3.THQ.COM) all belong to THQ.

At the time of this story, none of the domain names resolve to a web page.

Facebook registers clean energy domains like Facebookcleanenergy.org

Facebook

It appears Facebook may be taking its message of commitment to clean energy online.

On February 6, 2012, the world’s leader in social networking registered a slew of clean energy-related domain names through the internet brand protection company MarkMonitor.

Facebook registered the dotcom, dotnet and dotorg versions of the names, like Facebookcleanenergy.com, Facebookcleanenergy.net and Facebookcleanenergy.org.

Here’s a look at the names:

http://whois.domaintools.com/facebookcleanenergy.org

http://whois.domaintools.com/sustainablefacebook.com
http://whois.domaintools.com/sustainablefacebook.net

Although the owner of each domain is hidden using MarkMonitor’s privacy service “DNStination”, Facebook is a well-known client of MarkMonitor, so there’s very little doubt Facebook is behind the registrations.

In mid December 2011, Greenpeace and Facebook announced that they will collaborate on the promotion of renewable energy.

As of today, none of the domains resolve to a web page.
