Celebrity Gossip web site Radar Online covers eBay auction of HeidiandSpencer.com for $21MM

Heidi and Spencer domain for sale
The celebrity gossip web site Radar Online, receives over 1.5 million visitors per month.

The web site Radar Online which covers celebrity news, is reporting that the domain HeidiandSpencer.com is up for sale on eBay, and like many domain names put up for sale on eBay: the price is ridiculous.

The seller has lost their marbles if they think a buyer is going to swoop in and buy this name, but “listing hype” on eBay can help draw curious onlookers to other items for sale by the seller, so sometimes tacking on a make-believe price tag does work in the seller’s favor, as the seller has listed other domain names in the item description for sale.

At the time of this posting, the listing page for the domain name has over 3,000 visits.

eBay not a great idea for selling domains

Most domain buyers know that buying or selling domain names on eBay isn’t a great idea, but the owner of HeidiandSpencer.com is giving it a whirl anyway, listing the domain for $21,000,000.

The eBay listing headline reads, “HeidiAndSpencer.Com Greatest Domain Name Ever 4 Sale”, but as Radar Online points out, the suggestion hasn’t helped hype interest in this particular domain, since it has received 0 bids.

It’s not the first time domain names up for sale on eBay have been listed with million dollar price tags.  Not long after eBay went online, people have been selling products on the web site with outrageous prices, often times just to get hype.

Item Specifics on the Domain

Here’s what the eBay seller (who happens to have a 100% feedback rating) has to say about the domain:

HeidiAndSpencer.Com The Greatest Domain Name Ever Is Finally For Sale. Two very great generic names Heidi And Spencer. This is a no reserve and regged at Go Daddy.Payment is due within 3 days and we only take pay pal.We are listing a few gems so please check out our other items for sale.We will transfer asap as soon as payment is made. Bid Hard And Often And Win The Best Domain Name  Ever .This is only for the domain name and nothing else.

In fun, often, prospective “joke” buyers will leave teaser comments for sellers such as: “Would you be willing to accept $20,000,000?”

Candy
Candy.com, offers more than 6,000 candy products from 500-plus manufacturers to B-to-C and B-to-B customers.

Candy.com has just unveiled an attractive new design for the site’s blog.

The new blog design based on a custom WordPress theme, was created by Dizzain Inc., (http://www.dizzain.com) a New York web design company focusing on custom website development, logo design and WordPress design.

The company’s portfolio includes blog redesign projects for sites like Fandha.com and SimplyConfess.com.

The New Candy Blog

The Candy.com blog (http://blog.candy.com) incorporates the Candy.com logo, as well as the same look-and-feel of the main website.  The design is simple, but elegant and also features information about the writer, Sue Gillerlain, the former executive editor of Professional Candy Buyer magazine and a current contributing editor at Candy & Snack TODAY magazine.

About the Candy.com Domain

In March 2009, Domain Investor Rick Schwartz sold Candy.com to the Melville Candy Company for $3,000,000 plus revenue share.  In July 2009, cousins Greg Balestrieri and Joe Melville, launched the Candy.com website, which now ranks first in Google Search for the keyword: candy.

New Service by Domainers Aims to Rent, Not Sell Premium .CO Domains like Candy.co, Pizza.co, Toys.co

"Rent your CO"
According to the website's Business Model, Rent Your Co offers a huge .co domain portfolio with more than 300 exclusive premium .co domains to rent.

I discovered “Rent Your .Co” a brand new service for renting premium .co domain names.  I stumbled upon the website when I typed in Candy.co into my web browser, and the web address re-directed me to RentyourCO.com.

The site’s business model involves re-directing premium .co domains to websites for a fee.  Redireting traffic is one thing when it comes to .COM, but according to several reports by Domainers on Domaining.com who own other premium .co domain names, type-in traffic has been relatively low, despite the similarities to its .COM counterpart.

Considering .CO availability and awareness is so new to the general public, chances are this model may change over time.  And even though the website states the names are only for RENT, when the right offer comes along, that could certainly change.

The Rent Your Co Team

The new service aimed at renting premium .CO domains, is made up of a team of Domainers, apparently a small handful based out of Colombia.  But the team of Domainers has assembled an impressive portfolio of category-killing .CO domains that any domain name investor could be envious of.

The Premium .CO Portfolio, For Rental

The list includes some of the best .CO domains in the world, with more to come as the website promises.

baby.co friends.co pizza.co
beer.co fund.co sales.co

Incubator Model: Reinvent Takes a Different Approach, Developing its Existing Network of Domains

Domains
Reinvent owns or operates nearly 600,000 domains that generate revenue through pay per click advertising

Kevin Ham’s company, Reinvent, updated their company website again this week – this time the “Our Lab” page received a makeover.

The page describes Reinvent’s “Incubator Model” approach, that aims to take a domain name from a simple web address into a prototype within six weeks or less.

The Reinvent Difference

No word on which domain names are in the line up for rapid prototyping by Reinvent’s Development and Product Management teams, but the company has been churning out quality website businesses over the past year including:  BlackFriday.com and Vancouver.com.

The company has been showing off its latest venture into Group Buying (a popular online consumer trend)  called GoodNews.com, which was recently launched.

What’s the difference between Reinvent’s approach to the Incubator Model versus the standard practice?

According to Reinvent:

Most incubators work by supporting an entrepreneur through venture funding and administrative support (facilities, IT, HR, finance, etc).  We think that’s a great model, except our focus will be on developing our existing network of domains.  We look for interesting business models, trends in consumer behaviour, opportunities to create efficiencies or uniquely solve problems and then use a collaborative, small team process to quickly produce prototypes.

Crew behind Bodog, gives Slots.ca its own website

"Slots.ca"
Slots.ca is the second highest publicly reported Slots domain sale of all-time, ahead of Slots.eu which sold for $31,000 in 2009. Calvin Ayre, the buyer of Slots.ca, also owns Slots.com, one of the top 10 domain sales of all-time.

As we suspected, the purchase of Slots.ca for $207,000 in July 2010 was made by Calvin Ayre and his company Bodog Brand.  The purchase of Slots.ca followed Calvin Ayre’s acquisition of Slots.com for $5.5MM.

The domain name Slots.ca up until this week, redirected to Slots.com, but now the crew behind Bodog has given the domain its own web site.  This means the site will start ranking in the search engines.

Calvin Ayre is set to dominate the global internet when it comes to Slots with his recent acquisitions of Slots.com and Slots.ca — and his company knows a thing or two about online gaming.

According to Wikipedia, Calvin founded Bodog in 1994 with $10,000 to his name and rapidly evolved his brand into an online gaming and entertainment empire, becoming a billionaire – with the likes of Richard Branson who operates the Virgin empire.
