Apple wins domain name dispute for AppleiPods.com, MacBookPros.com

MacBook Pro

Apple continues to win domain name disputes filed with WIPO, the World Intellectual Property Organization.

AppleiPods.com, MacBookPros.com, iPhine.com, and iPodHack.com, have been ordered transferred to Apple Inc. by a WIPO panel in the latest decision.  The dispute (Case no. D2011-1390) was filed in August.

The decision comes on the heels of a big win over iPods.com back in late July.

Full details of the ruling for Case no. D2011-1390 have not been posted on the web yet.  The decision ordering the domain names transferred to Apple, was just issued yesterday.

Two additional cases are still open with WIPO which involve appleproductsonline.com (case no. D2011-1387) and (case no. D2011-1388) which involves: applebigdiscount.com, applesdiscount.com, applessales.com, and applestorewell.com.

This week Apple also officially took ownership of wwwitunes.com and wwitunes.com in a separate case it won in late September.

‘Remembering Steve Jobs’ domain now re-directs to Apple’s official website

Remembering Steve Jobs official site

Sadly, after Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs passed away on October 5, hundreds of people flocked online to register and capitalize on ‘Steve Jobs’ domain names.

One such domain was RememberingSteveJobs.com.

The domain had first been registered in early 2009, shortly after Jobs gave a statement in January saying he had been suffering from a “hormone imbalance” for several months.  The domain expired in 2010, but was registered again on the day he passed away by Brett Burky, who had launched his own one page website.

It now appears Apple owns the domain name.

On October 18, the domain name went behind WHOIS privacy and is now re-directing to Apple’s official ‘Remembering Steve’ page which it recently launched

It’s unknown whether Apple paid money for the domain or whether the previous owner handed it over.

RememberingSteve.com also points to the official ‘Remembering Steve’ page at the time of this story.

DNW reported earlier this month, 600 related domain names (mostly tasteless) were registered at Go Daddy alone, in the 36 hours following news of his death.

Some shut down sales their sales threads, after news broke that people were trying to sell web addresses.

It’s good to see these two domains being used properly.

Microsoft may launch a living monument online for Halo: Combat Evolved remake

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

[Updated, Nov. 1, 2:40pm EST: The Halo Monument website went online, temporarily.  I took a screen shot before the site was taken down by Microsoft.]

**

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is set to be released on November 15th for the Xbox 360.

Earlier this week, Microsoft registered the domain names HaloLivingMonument.com and HaloLivingMonument.net.

So is Microsoft planning to launch a website as part of its marketing campaign?  In 2010, Microsoft launched the Remember Reach website as part of its online marketing campaign for Halo: Reach.  The site had visitors create a “living monument” of lights to honor Noble team members.

Or better yet, is Microsoft planning to launch a “living monument” online for players who achieve legendary feats in the game?

It appears as if the “Living Monument” domain registrations may have something to do with the achievements that can be unlocked in the game.

The achievement list was recently unveiled by Xbox who reported: “…you can now get an achievement if you complete The Library on Legendary in 30 minutes or less. No small feat but if you pull it off, you will then gain a monument to all your sins. I mean, a virtual monument for surviving the experience.”

Here’s a look at the WHOIS record for HaloLivingMonument.com.
