Topps domain registrations hint at MechWarrior movie finally being made

MechWarrior movie

The Topps Company made some interesting domain name purchases this week that hint toward a MechWarrior movie.  On May 7, 2012, Topps registered movie-related names for several properties like BattleTechmovie.com, MechWarriormovie.com, Shadowrunmovie.com, and more.  In total, the company picked up nearly a dozen domains through the brand protection firm Corporation Service Company.

The last time there was talk of a MechWarrior movie was back in 2009, when a trusted source told Joystiq that a MechWarrior film was “in development”.

At one point in time, MechWarriormovie.com was home to a petition that pushed for Hollywood to greenlight a MechWarrior/BattleTech film.  You can see the web page here, courtesy of screenshots.com.

Here’s a full list of domain names acquired by Topps this week:

battletechmovie.com
battletechthemovie.com
garbagepailkidstv.com
garbagepailmovie.com
gpkmovie.com
mechwarriormovie.com
mechwarriorthemovie.com
shadrowrunmovie.com
shadrowrunthemovie.com
thegarbagepailmovie.com
thegargagepailkidsmovie.com

As of today, there has been no official announcement regarding an upcoming MechWarrior/BattleTech movie.

Sony Pictures looks to have acquired rights to Turok film according to domains

Turok the movie

Back in March, Deadline reported Sony Pictures closed a deal to acquire Bloodshot, the Valiant Comics series.

Now it looks Sony Pictures has landed another deal for a comic book character that once appeared in Valiant Comics: Turok.

On May 3, 2012, Sony Pictures registered domain names hinting at the movie like Turokthemovie.com (Whois).

Here’s a look at the full list of domain names:

turok-movie.com
turok-movie.net
turok-themovie.com
turok-themovie.net
turokthemovie.com
turokthemovie.net

Turok has a long publishing history, going back to the 1950s when he first appeared in Four Color Comics #596.

At the time of this story, Sony Pictures hasn’t officially announced anything regarding a Turok film.

Domain registrations reveal Lucasfilm is working on “Star Wars 1313” project

Star Wars 1313

UPDATE 2: May 6, 2012 @ 7:42 PM Est:. Star Wars 1313 now looks less likely related to a new film.  Lucasfilm Entertainment Company Ltd. has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for “Star Wars 1313″.  The filing hints that a new video game will be released.

ORIGINAL STORY:. Last July, talk of a film featuring Boba Fett was making the rounds on the internet after Screen Rant interviewed director Joe Johnston who said he was trying to get George Lucas to make a movie based on the Star Wars bounty hunter.

Though nothing was ever confirmed, Lucasfilm is hinting at a new project called Star Wars: 1313, according to several domain names registered on May 2, 2012, through the brand protection agency Corporation Service Company.  The registrations I spotted include names like StarWars1313.com (Whois) and SW1313.com (Whois).

It’s unknown at this time, what Lucasfilm has in store for Star Wars: 1313.

The company hasn’t officially announced anything at this point, but has registered eight domains in total including: 1313starwars.com, 1313starwars.net, 1313sw.com, 1313sw.net, starwars1313.com, starwars1313.net, sw1313.com, and sw1313.net.

I’m only speculating that Star Wars: 1313 is the Boba Fett movie.

The only thing I have dug up so far on the significance of “1313” in the Star Wars universe, is that CT-1313 was once an alias used by Boba Fett on Aargau when he was confronted by a clone trooper.

UPDATE 1 at 3:37PM EST:.  In addition to the eight domain names I spotted earlier, Lucasfilm registered the same names in a number of different extensions.  The following names were also registered on the same day:

1313starwars.de
1313starwars.co.uk
1313starwars.fr
1313sw.de
1313sw.co.uk
1313sw.fr
starwars1313.de
starwars1313.co.uk
starwars1313.fr
sw1313.de
sw1313.co.uk
sw1313.fr

Underworld 5 to be called Underworld: Battle? Sony Pictures registers domain

Underworld Battle

Though no official word is yet available on Underworld 5, it’s pretty certain the next film is in the works given the success of Underworld: Awakening which has been the highest-grossing film in the series so far.

While it’s purely speculation, it appears the next film could be called Underworld: Battle, according to a new domain name registration this week by Sony Pictures.

On April 24, 2012, Sony Pictures registered UnderworldBattle.com (Whois).

At the time of this post, Sony Pictures has not made an announcement about Underworld: Battle, but the domain does redirect visitors to the Sony Pictures home video page for Underworld: Awakening, which is set to be released on DVD and Blu-ray on May 8th.

While Underworld 5 would be no surprise, it looks more likely that UnderworldBattle.com is part of Sony Pictures’ online marketing campaign for the release of Underworld: Awakening on home video, and less likely the title of the fifth film in the series.

The name could also hint at a new video game, as well.

At this point, we’ll just have to wait and see if Sony Pictures announces anything official.

DreamWorks registers domains for something called Shrek’s Thrilling Tales

Shrek's Thrilling Tales

While DreamWorks Animation may have no plans for a fifth Shrek film, it does appear to have something in store for the fairy tale ogre, according to several new domain registrations that center around: Shrek’s Thrilling Tales.

On March 19, DreamWorks Animation L.L.C. registered ShreksThrillingTales.com, ShreksThrillingTales.net, ShreksThrillingTales.org, ShreksThrillingTales.co.uk, as well as the dot-info and dot-biz.

I won’t bother speculating on the company’s plans for the names, because the possibilities are endless — a film, a theme park ride, a spin-off, a video game, a musical?

No official announcement has been made by DreamWorks nor do any of the domain names resolve to a web page at the time of this story.

[Update 1 on March 23, 2012, 5:10am Est:. DreamWorks has registered more Shrek-related domain names.  On March 21, it registered the following names: ShrekFairyTaleKingdom.com (Whois) and ShreksFairyTaleKingdom.com (Whois).  Other domain buys on the same day included: ChunkytheDeathcat.com (Whois), ChunkytheDeathcat.net and ChunkytheDeathcat.info.]
